👚 2 hiking pants, 3 base layers, fleece, puffer, rain coat
🩴 Hiking boots, slippers, shower shoes
🛌 Something warm to sleep in + sleep crown, heating pad, Theragun

🛂 US side: easy. Passports in, passports out. That’s it.
✈️ Global Entry: non-negotiable. Every kid needs their own membership. It’s not like TSA PreCheck, where they ride under yours. @tsa @cbpgov
📱 No Global Entry? Download Mobile Passport Control before you leave. Thank me later.
📂 Every passport + registro lives in Notion + Google Drive, offline mode. Zero signal, zero panic.
💛 The one that sneaks up on people: fiebre amarilla. Some countries get strict if Colombia’s been on your itinerary (Aruba, looking at you!) No vaccine card can mean quarantine. So ours stay in the passport holder, always.

Real talk. Why is it so hard for “expats” to call themselves immigrants?

It’s a classic case of not wanting to own your own privilege. Words matter. And watching people dig in on this one just reads as more entitlement, not less.

I want this to come from an empathetic place, not a call-out. I get why the word feels safer.

But reasoning like “I could go back if I wanted” isn’t a loophole. That’s not a technicality, that’s just... what makes you an immigrant instead of a refugee. Both are real. They’re not the same thing, and using one to dodge the other doesn’t hold up.

Just something that has come up so often since moving to Colombia and meeting other U.S. Citizens who don’t hear themselves when they talk.
